Armenian paklava is layered phyllo pastry filled with chopped walnuts or pistachios and soaked in a sugar syrup scented with rose water or orange-blossom water. The Aleppo-Armenian version uses finely chopped pistachios and a lighter, more fragrant syrup; the Beirut-Armenian version favors walnuts and a denser, less sweet result.
