Gata is a sweetened bread or pastry baked for celebrations, housewarmings, and religious occasions across Armenian communities. The filling varies by region: the Karabakh version features a dense layered butter-and-flour interior called khoriz; the Geghard region produces a richer, more compact version associated with the monastery area; Yerevan-style gata is flatter and more biscuit-like.
