Mythology

The pomegranate signifies fertility, prosperity, and eternity in Armenian folk tradition, with roots linked to the goddess Anahit's domain. A folk custom smashes a pomegranate at the threshold on New Year's Day for good luck; the motif recurs in khachkar borders, manuscript marginalia, and ceramic tiles. The symbol is shared across the Caucasus and Middle East, not exclusively Armenian.
