The blue glass eye-bead amulet—known regionally as nazar and in Armenian folk practice as achk'i chir—guards against the evil eye, the belief that a malicious glance causes harm. This protective tradition predates Christianity across the South Caucasus and broader Middle East and survives syncretically alongside Christian practice in contemporary Armenia.
