Mythology

The arevakhach—literally 'sun-cross' in Armenian—is an ancient solar rosette symbol that predates Christianity in the region. Absorbed into Armenian Christian iconography, it appears prominently on khachkars (cross-stones) and was adopted as a national emblem: the arevakhach is depicted on the coat of arms of the Republic of Armenia.
