Mythology

Vardavar, celebrated 98 days after Easter, is Armenia's water festival: crowds drench one another in the streets. Scholars trace its pre-Christian origin to the festival of Astghik, goddess of love and water; the Armenian Apostolic Church rededicated the day to the Feast of the Transfiguration.
