Armenian Diaspora

The early-1990s collapse of the Soviet economy, combined with Armenia's energy crisis (mass blackouts of 1991–1995), drove between 676,000 and 800,000 Armenians to emigrate within a single decade — adding new diaspora populations to Russia, the United States, and Western Europe and reducing the Republic's resident population by roughly a fifth.
