Armenian Diaspora

Between 1946 and 1949, approximately 89,000 Armenians from diaspora communities in Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Palestine, Iraq, Greece, France, and the United States migrated to Soviet Armenia under the post-WWII Nerkaght (homecoming) campaign โ€” answering Stalin's call for ethnic-Armenian repatriation, only to find shortages, surveillance, and in some cases internal exile waiting for them.
