Operating from 1280 to 1340 within the Armenian highlands, the University of Gladzor produced approximately 350 graduates over its sixty active years and was praised by contemporaries as the 'glorious second Athens' for the breadth of its curriculum: theology, philosophy, mathematics, astronomy, music theory, and grammar were taught alongside manuscript illumination.
