Armenian Diaspora

By the 17th century the New Julfa Armenian merchant network was the only Eurasian commercial diaspora operating simultaneously in all major early-modern empires — Safavid, Mughal, Ottoman, Russian, Spanish, Dutch, and English — without state backing of its own, relying on family-trust contracts and a shared Julfa-dialect commercial Armenian as its lingua franca.
