Pre-Christian Navasard celebrations featured Olympic-style athletic competitions — horse racing, wrestling, archery, and hunting contests — alongside week-long musical and poetic recitations under open-air pavilions on the slopes of Mount Aragats. Many of these traditions survived as folk festivals into the Soviet period and have been revived in modern Armenian patriotic gatherings.
