Trndez, celebrated mid-February forty days after Christmas, features bonfires lit in church courtyards over which newlyweds and young couples leap in pairs — a fertility rite descended from the pre-Christian fire-cult of Mihr (Mithra), absorbed by the Armenian Apostolic Church as the Feast of the Presentation of Jesus.
