Vardavar, celebrated 98 days after Easter, is Armenia's water festival in which people of all ages drench each other from buckets, hoses, and balconies. The pre-Christian rite honored the goddess Astghik (the Armenian Aphrodite) and was absorbed into church observance after Armenia's 301 AD conversion as the Feast of the Transfiguration.
