Genocide & Resilience

The Soviet-organized nerkaght ('return') brought approximately 100,000 diaspora Armenians to Soviet Armenia between 1946 and 1948, mainly from the Middle East, Greece, and France. For many, the reality was harsh: their Western-Armenian dialect and foreign credentials marked them as suspect, and some were exiled to Siberia in Stalin's 1949 deportations.
