Genocide & Resilience

The Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU), founded in Cairo in 1906, expanded its network of Armenian-language schools and cultural programs after 1915 to serve survivor communities from Beirut to Buenos Aires. The Hairenik newspaper (Boston, 1899) and the Armenian Reporter gave Western Armenian diaspora communities continuous vernacular press through the interwar decades.
