Wine & Viticulture

In 2008, in the same Areni-1 cave complex that yielded the world's oldest winery, archaeologists unearthed a perfectly preserved leather shoe stitched from a single piece of cowhide and laced with leather cord โ€” dated to approximately 3,500 BC, making it the oldest known leather shoe on earth. The shoe and the winery were separated by roughly five centuries, evidence that the cave was a place of long human habitation, storage, and ritual in the ancient Armenian highlands.
