Armenian Diaspora

Western Armenian — the dialect spoken by the descendants of Ottoman Armenians and the primary language of most diaspora communities in Lebanon, France, and the United States — was classified as "definitely endangered" by UNESCO in 2010, meaning children no longer learn it as their mother tongue at home. Approximately 1.58 million native speakers remain; the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation runs major preservation programs.
