Alex Manoogian (1901–1996), born in Ottoman Turkey and a survivor of the Armenian Genocide, immigrated to the United States in 1920 and founded Masco Corporation in Detroit in 1929. He redesigned and mass-produced the Delta single-handle faucet, transforming it into one of the best-selling plumbing products in history. In 1966, he donated his family's Detroit mansion to the city as the official residence of the Mayor of Detroit — it remains the Manoogian Mansion to this day.
