Notable Armenians

Cher (born Cherilyn Sarkisian, 1946) has Armenian heritage through her father, John Paul Sarkisian, a California-born son of Armenian immigrant parents who were survivors of the Armenian Genocide. Though Cher grew up largely estranged from her father, she has publicly embraced her Armenian roots in adulthood — including performing benefit concerts for Armenia following the 1988 earthquake.
