Levon Aronian, born in Yerevan in 1982, became one of the top-ranked chess players in the world — reaching world No. 2 in 2014 with a peak rating of 2830, the fourth highest in history at the time. He led the Armenian national team to three Chess Olympiad gold medals (2006, 2008, 2012) and won the FIDE World Cup twice (2005, 2017).
