Rome did not make Christianity its official state religion until 79 years after Armenia did. On February 27, 380 AD, Emperor Theodosius I issued the Edict of Thessalonica, declaring Nicene Christianity the sole legal religion of the Roman Empire. By that date, Armenia had been Christian for nearly eight decades.
