In 506 AD, Catholicos Babgen I convened the First Council of Dvin, which formally rejected the Council of Chalcedon (451 AD) and aligned the Armenian Church with the Oriental Orthodox communion. This decision permanently distinguished Armenian Christianity from both Roman Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy โ€” and it stands today.
