First Christian Nation

Built between 301 and 303 AD by Saint Gregory the Illuminator on orders from King Tiridates III, Etchmiadzin Cathedral is widely regarded as the world's oldest cathedral still in active use. The current core dates to a 483 AD rebuild by Vahan Mamikonian, but archaeological excavations have confirmed continuous Christian use of the site since the early 4th century.
